The New York Islanders agreed to a one-year contract with veteran center Derick Brassard on Wednesday, the team announced.

Terms were not disclosed.

The Colorado Avalanche agreed to a one-year deal with forward Valeri Nichushkin.

The 24-year-old had 10 assists and no goals in 57 games last season with the Dallas Stars. He has 23 goals and 51 assists in 223 career games, all with Dallas.

Joel Edmundson has been awarded $3.1 million on a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blue in arbitration.

Doug Armstrong called Edmundson an important part of the Blues' defensive unit and said they're looking forward to another successful season.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Kevin Shattenkirk to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.

The New York Rangers bought out the last two years of Shattenkirk's contract last week.

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe passed up his scheduled arbitration hearing by agreeing to a two-year, $5.7 million contract.

The deal was reached Saturday, a day before the hearing. McCabe was a restricted free agent, and both sides were seeking a one-year contract in arbitration.
